How to delete an account

1. Open the Aboutfam mobile app and log in to the account you want to delete.
2. Go to your Profile.
3. Open Settings.
4. Select Manage Account.
5. Select the account you want to delete.
6. Choose Delete account.
7. Review the confirmation message and tap Delete to confirm.

If you delete your main account, linked sub accounts may continue as separate accounts and you will no longer remain their owner after the deletion is completed.

What data is deleted

When an account is deleted, Aboutfam removes or disconnects the account from active use and deletes account data associated with that user where deletion is technically and legally possible. This may include:

• Profile details such as name, username, bio, profile photo, cover photo, gender, date of birth, and account settings.
• Contact details associated with the account, such as phone number and email address.
• Photos, videos, audio, posts, tapes, minutes, captions, comments, reactions, and other user-created content tied to the account.
• Family relationship data added by the account, including FamTree or GenTree links, relationship labels, spouse details, and related family information.
• Device tokens, notification preferences, saved sessions, and app activity data tied to the account.
• Managed-account ownership links for accounts controlled by the deleted account.

What may be retained

Some information may remain for a limited period or as required for security, legal, backup, fraud-prevention, dispute-resolution, audit, or operational reasons. This may include:

• Temporary backup copies until normal backup rotation is complete.
• Security logs, abuse-prevention records, and system audit records.
• Information required to comply with law, regulation, court order, or legal process.
• Content or relationship information that must remain visible to another user because they created it, own it, or need it to preserve their own account context.
• Anonymized or aggregated analytics that no longer identify the deleted account.

Before you delete

Account deletion is intended to be permanent. After deletion, you may lose access to your profile, uploaded media, family relationship data, messages, comments, and other account history. If you only want to stop using the account temporarily, use the app's Deactivate account option instead of Delete account.
